CADUGA IS RATTLESNAKE REMEDY.THEY CHANGE ITS NAME BUT THE ESSENCE CONTINUE WITH THEM.WITH THE FIRST ALBUM, MAGIC MAN, THEY WERE A REFERENCE OF THE CRITICS. BEN BARTLETT, GUITAR PLAYER OF THE BAND ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS FOUR MONTHS AGO:
I think you are finished your new album, how was the recording sessions?
That is right, we are now in the mixing process. The recording mostly took place last year. We
basically took over a small studio in Northampton, England, and were granted the freedom to take our time. I think this really comes through in the music. Magic Man was a 'live' album. For the new record we decided to focus on making a 'studio' album.
Who is the producer of the album?
The album is being produced by Ian 'Billy' Eardley and co-produced by the band. We learnt a lot about production from working on Magic Man together which is why we are taking our time on this record. Production is often just a second thought but in reality it is just as important as each individual instrument.
Are you happy with the new songs?
At this time we have 17 songs recorded. We will probably have to choose about 12-14 for the album and are finding it very hard to decide which ones to drop, so this is a very good sign!
With Magic Man you have success, some groups have difficult to repeat the success with their second album, are you nervous for this?
For me personally, music is an art. If I am happy with the finished product that is enough for me, but because of this, because we do not fear, and we have learnt the business, we are pretty confident this album will surpass Magic Man. We have not tried to re-create Magic Man, we have allowed ourselves to move forward.
Magic Man received very good critics in any medias, how was the sales of the album?
Sales were ok, we didn't buy new cars or anything but we managed to tour for a couple of years, all expenses paid. Hopefully this time around I'll be able to get that porsche I've had my eye on ;)
In several medias, I can read some rock stars mentioned you like best new group, what is your opinion about this?
It's always a pleasure to know that your music is appreciated by anyone. I went to my friends house the other day and he had a Rattlesnake Remedy poster on his wall, right next to Dimebag Darrell, that is an amazing privelage.
Wich are your principal influences?
I can probably best answer this by listing some of the bands we would listen to in the bus on the way to a gig. This could be anything from Black Sabbath to Dr Dre, The Rolling Stones to Norah Jones, Black Label Society to Bob Marley.. If music is an expression of emotion, why not experience them all?
How do you see the british rock scene at this moment?
To be honest, while we've been recording the new album, I have removed myself entirely from the rock scene. Listening more to different genres instead. This way i think you can create something truly unique instead of something 'relevant' to your specific scene.
Is there any new band you will recomend?
Any band that sticks around long enough to be heard must have a message worth hearing.. or more money than sense
What is your composition method?
Before we started recording at the end of 2009, we spent many months writing. At the time, a couple of us lived together and made a small studio in the house. We would each bring our ideas to the table and allow the band to mould them into songs. Sometimes just by playing together, other times we would record demos and add lyrics and melodies as they came. The main method, I would say, is to allow the songs to evolve. Even today we are adding new ideas to songs written two years ago.
Like guitar player, who is your favourite guitar player?
Anyone with their own unique sound and style, jeff beck for example or matt bellamy from Muse, Tom Morello from rRge, Zakk Wylde.. the list is endless!
When will be your new album in stores?
At this point I would say sometime after March we should be ready to start the promotion and release.
I suppose you are preparing for a new tour, is Spain included on it?
Yes, we will be touring the UK to start with but are planning to also tour Europe, America, Japan and anywhere else that'll have us!
Why the change of name from Rattlesnake Remedy to Caduga?
The easiest way for me to explain this is to quote a wise man by the name of Picasso. "Every act of creation is first of all an act of destruction."
